MINDFUL KIDS, HAPPY KIDS!
Why should your child practice meditation and mindfulness?
The Power of Kindness
BY JANANI RAVIKUMAR
As parents, we all want to raise our children to be good human beings, kind and compassionate to others. How do we do this?
Here, you can see Srimaa and her cousin, Rahul arguing over a toy. They both want to play with the toy and don’t want to share it with the other person.
As usual, Srimaa’s best friend, happy appears. He says, “Dear child, before you speak, take a mindful breath. Can you solve this kindly?”
Srimaa pauses, takes a deep breath and notices her irritation inside. As she observes the feeling, her anger comes down slowly. Taking another deep breath, she hands over the toy to Rahul, ‘You can have a turn first!’
Rahul is overjoyed. Taking the toy, he holds her hand. ‘Let us both play together.’, he says.
Mindful kids are kind kids. When we teach our children to be aware of their feelings and thoughts, they are able to manage them much better. And over a period of time, this regular practice even in small situations makes them kinder, more gentle and most importantly wonderful human beings.
Such children are a blessing to this world, and this the best gift we can ever give ourselves and to this planet. Try this out.
